As a small, woman-owned business in South Africa it’s important for us to celebrate and honor other women who are on a similar journey. As women’s month draws to a close, we’re ending it off by showcasing 5 local women-owned, sustainable, small businesses. Each of the women below are trailblazers, redefining the status quo and are incredibly inspirational!

1) Remosadi

Founded by Rethabile Sign, Remosadi is a brand new, local online marketplace that sells high quality natural products specifically tailored for women. Remosadi mainly supports small, women-owned businesses like Sheba and is all about having a holistic approach to women’s wellness. On Remosadi, you can find yoni steaming products, organic menstrual care options, herbal tea’s, natural body wash and more!

2) Kafui Naturals

This is a brand that should need no introduction. Kafui Naturals celebrates the natural and innate beauty of skin and hair! The entire Kafui Naturals range is vegan, cruelty-free, preservative, colorant and chemical-free! Kafui Naturals champions indigenous African ingredients like Shea butter, African black soap and essential oils. When Kafui moved to Cape Town from Amsterdam over 9 years ago, she couldn’t find any chemical-free options for her hair, so she began making her own using Shea butter. She then started making for her friends too, which eventually led to selling her products at markets and the rest is history.

3) Lola and Co Organics

Lola and Co Organics is a local skincare brand that focuses on luxurious and natural products made from indigenous ingredients. Lola and Co Organics was founded by Olwethu Ngcobo in 2018, and sells a range of handcrafted, cruelty and chemical-free products from lip balm to body scrubs, candles, and more.

4) LUNTU

Amahle Ntshinga: LUNTU founder and owner

 

LUNTU is an online platform where you can find high quality conscious products that are local, women-owned and Black-owned. Founded by Amahle Ntshinga, LUNTU has significantly shifted the online marketplace landscape in South Africa with their conscious, sustainable and inclusive approach. LUNTU sells everything from menstrual cups, to vegan sunglasses, sustainable swimwear and so much more!

5) Mare and Itis

Anele Msweli: Mare and Itis founder

 

What originally started out as a travel blog to show people how easy it is to travel on a budget, has since turned into a fully fledged business that focuses mainly on skincare and wellness. All Mare and Itis products are chemical-free and made from plant-based ingredients. Founder Anele Msweli, is an earth sciences major, passionate about travel and ofcourse all things skincare!
